Inserting SIM card into Iridium Extreme

Follow the steps below on how to insert the SIM card into the Iridium Extreme.

  1. Remove the battery by twisting the d-ring set screw counterclockwise and pulling away from the phone.
  2. Unlock the SIM card door by sliding it to upwards
  3. Note the position of the cut corner in the SIM card slot
  4. Lift up the SIM card door
  5. Insert SIM card into SIM card door
  6. Ensure the cut corner of the SIM card lines up with the cut corner on the phone
  7. Close SIM card door
  8. Slide the SIM card door downwards to lock it in to place
  9. Insert the battery and twist the d-ring set screw clockwise to lock it in to place
  10. Firmly press on the center of the battery to ensure it is well seated
  11. Press and hold power button
  12. The handset will power on and begin to search for the Iridium network

 

Placing a call from Iridium 9555 & Extreme

Follow the steps below on how to place a call from the Iridium 9555 & Iridium Extreme.

Solution 1: Calling a North American number

  1. Take the phone outside in the most open area possible
  2. Extend and rotate the antenna so it points to the sky when against your ear
  3. Wait for the phone to register, the word Registered will appear on the display
  4. Press and hold the 0 key until the + appears
  5. Dial the country code, area code and phone number
    • Example: + (country code)(area code/city code)(phone number)
    • Example: + 1 321 256 6925

Solution 2: Calling to another Iridium phone

  1. Take the phone outside in the most open area possible
  2. Extend and rotate the antenna so it points to the sky when against your ear
  3. Wait for the phone to register, the word Registered will appear on the display
  4. Press and hold the 0 key until the + appears followed by the 8816 number
    • Example: + 8816 324 12345

 

Sending a text message from Iridium 9555 & Extreme

Follow the steps below on how to send a text message from the Iridium 9555 & Iridium Extreme.

Solution 1: Sending a text message

  1. Make sure you are outside with a clear line of sight to the sky and not surrounded by any significant obstructions (tress, buildings, power lines)
  2. Extend the antenna
  3. Wait for the phone to register, the word Registered will appear on the display
  4. Press Menu
  5. Scroll to Messages, and press Select
  6. Select Create message, and press Select
  7. Enter desired message (press the * key for special characters)
  8. Press Options when done
  9. Select Send, and press Select
  10. Select New Recipient and press Add
  11. Select Enter Number and press Select
    • Alternatively, you can also choose a contact from the list and press Select
  12. Enter the recipient number, starting with + followed by country code, area code and phone number and press OK
    • Example: + 1 321 258 6969
  13. Press Send to send your message

 

Configuring GEOS SOS Service for Iridium Extreme & Extreme PTT

To enable the GEOS SOS service on your Iridium Extreme, you will need to perform the following:

Step 1: Register with GEOS

  1. Navigate to https://my-geos.com/registration
  2. Fill in the GEOS registration form and your details when done.

Once you have completed the GEOS registration process, check your phone to ensure it has been configured correctly by following the steps below.

Step 2: Configure Extreme for use with GEOS

  1. A warning message will be displayed, "WARNING! You have no configured GEOS Service", press Setup
  2. Scroll to Use and press Select
  3. A message will be displayed, "Please confirm you have registered...", press OK
  4. Power the handset off and back on again
  5. When handset starts up, confirm the warning message is no longer presented.
  6. You've successfully configured your handset for use with GEOS.

 

PIN Blocked is displayed on the Iridium 9555 & Extreme

Follow the steps below if your Iridium 9555 or Iridium Extreme handset is displaying PIN BLOCKED. 

Note: PIN blocked will be displayed if the incorrect PIN code has been entered 3 times. If the incorrect PUK code is entered 5 times, the SIM card will self-destruct and a new SIM card will be required.

Step 1: Obtain the PUK code

  1. Contact us by phone, email, or live chat to request your PUK code.
  2. Have your Iridium phone number ready as the PUK code is specific to your Iridium phone number.

Step 2: Enter the PUK code into the phone

  1. Phone will display PIN BLOCKED
  2. Enter **05* press Green button
  3. You will be prompted for the SIM PUK Code
  4. Enter the PUK code
  5. Scroll down to New PIN
  6. Enter 1111
  7. Scroll down to Verify New PIN
  8. Enter 1111 and press OK
  9. The phone will now be unblocked

Step 3: Disable the SIM PIN

  1. From home screen, press Menu
  2. Scroll to Security and press Select
  3. Scroll to SIM Lock and press Select
  4. Scroll to Disable SIM PIN and press Select
  5. Enter 1111 and press OK
  6. The SIM PIN will now be disabled on startup
