Check SIM or Insert SIM error on Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below if the Iridium 9505A is displaying Check SIM or Insert SIM error.

Step 1: Remove SIM card 

1. Rotate the antenna on the phone away from the battery cover
2. Remove the battery cover by pressing down on the release clip located below the antenna socket and pulling the cover
3. Remove the battery by pressing down on the release clip located at the top of the battery
4. Unlock the SIM card door by sliding it to the left
5. Note the position of cut corner on the SIM card
6. Lift up the SIM card door
7. Remove SIM card
8. Obtain a soft cloth or contact cleaner
9. Wipe gold prongs on both SIM card and phone

Step 2: Insert SIM card

1. Insert SIM card into SIM card door
2. Ensure the cut corner of the SIM card lines up with the cut corner on the phone
3. Close SIM card door
4. Slide the SIM card door to the right to lock it in to place
5. Insert the battery and press firmly to lock it into place. Make sure the arrows on the battery are aligned with the arrows in the battery compartment
6. Insert the battery door and press firmly to lock it into place
7. Press and hold power button
8. The phone will power on and begin to search for the Iridium network

 

Accessing voicemail from Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below on how to access voicemail from the Iridium phone.

Step 1: Register to the network

1. Take the Iridium phone outside to the most open area possible
2. Rotate the antenna until it snaps into place
3. Extend the antenna

Step 2: Call voicemail

1. Press the Envelope key on the keypad
2. Select "Call Voicemail"
3. Enter your full Iridium number when prompted, Example: 8816 325 12345
4. Your voicemail greeting will play, interupt with the " * " key
5. Enter your passcode, the default code is the last seven digits of your Iridium phone number
6. Follow the voice prompts

 

Setting Date and Time on the Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below on how to set the date and time on the Iridium 9505A handset.

Solution: Change the Date and Time on the phone

1. Click on the "Menu" button.
2. Scroll to "Phone Setup" and press the "OK" key.
3. Scroll to "Set Time and Date" and press the "OK" key.
4. You will have the option of setting the "Home time" and "Away time" on the phone. Scroll to either option to change the time.
5. To see whether Home or Away time is active, scroll to "Phone Setup", then "Show Time and Date" and press "OK." Scroll to "Change Clock Display" and press "OK." You will see Home time and Away time and whichever one has a check mark next to it is the active one.

 

Placing a call from Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below on how to place a call from the Iridium phone.

Solution 1: Calling a North American number

1. To place a call from the Iridium 9505A you must be outside with a clear line of sight to the sky.
2. Rotate and extended the antenna
3. Press and hold the 0 key until the + appears
4. Dial the country code, area code/city code and phone number 
• Example: + (country code)(area code/city code)(phone number)
• Example: + 1 416 253 6008

 

Placing a call to Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below on how to place a call to the Iridium phone.

Solution 1: Dialing from a landline or cellular

1. To place a call to an Iridium phone you must have international dialing capabilities
2. From a North American landline or cellular dial, 011 followed by the 8816 number
• Example: 011 8816 325 12000

Solution 2: Dialing from an Iridium phone to an Iridium phone

1. From the Iridium phone dial, + followed by the 8816 number.
2. To obtain the + sign, press and hold the 0 key until the + appears
3. Dial the Iridium satellite phone number and press OK
• Example: + 8816 325 12000

Solution 3: Calling to another Iridium phone

1. To place a call from the Iridium 9505A you must be outside with a clear line of sight to the sky.
2. Rotate and extended the antenna
3. Press and hold the 0 key until the + appears followed by the 8816 number
• Example: + 8816 325 12345

 

Sending a text message from Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below on how to send a text message.

Solution 1: Sending a text message to another phone

1. Press the Envelope key
2. Scroll to Message Editor, and press OK
3. Type desired message, and press OK
4. Send Message appears, press OK
5. Enter destination number, starting with + followed by country code, area code and phone number
• Example: + 1 416 253 6008
6. Press OK
7. Send will appear on the display, press OK

 

Blocked is displayed on Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below for assistance on how to unblock your Iridium 9505A handset.

Note: Blocked appears when the incorrect PIN code has been entered more than 3 times.

Step 1: Locate the PUK code

1. Obtain your PUK code from the back of your SIM card holder
• If you're unable to locate your PUK code contact our Customer Care department via email or our live chat.

Step 2: Unblock the satellite phone

1. Phone will display "BLOCKED."
2. Enter **05*
3. You will be prompted for the SIM PUK Code.
4. Enter the PUK code and press "OK."
5. You will then be prompted to create a SIM "PIN Code."
6. Enter "1111" and press "OK."
7. You will be prompted to confirm the PIN previously entered.
8. Enter "1111" and press "OK."

 

Enter SIM PIN on 9505/9505A

Follow the steps below on how to enter the SIM PIN on the Iridium 9505 & 9505A.

Step 1: Enter the SIM PIN Code

1. Enter 1111 into the phone and press the “OK” key.
2. The phone will now be unlocked.

Step 2: Disable the SIM PIN prompt on the phone

This will prevent the phone from asking for the SIM PIN again.

1. Make sure you are at the home screen (press and hold C button for a few seconds).
2. Press "Menu" key.
3. Scroll to "Phone Setup" and press the "OK" key.
4. Scroll to "Require SIM Card PIN" and press the "OK" key.
5. Scroll to "Off" and press the "OK" key.
6. Enter PIN "1111" and press the "OK" key.
7. Completed will appear on the display. 
8. Power phone off and on to verify you are no longer being prompted to enter SIM PIN.

 

Disabling SIM PIN on Iridium 9505A

Follow the steps below on how to disable the SIM PIN on the Iridium 9505A.

Step 1: Enter the SIM PIN Code

1. Enter 1111 into the phone and press the OK.
2. The phone will now be unlocked.

Step 2: Disable the SIM PIN prompt on the phone

1. This will prevent the phone from asking for the SIM PIN again.
2. Make sure you are at the home screen (press and hold C button for a few seconds).
3. Press Menu.
4. Scroll to Phone Setup and press OK.
5. Scroll to Require SIM Card PIN and press OK.
6. Scroll to Off and press OK.
7. Enter PIN 1111 and press OK.
8. Completed will appear on the display.
9. Power phone off and back on to verify you are no longer being prompted to enter SIM PIN.
